Apple iPhone 3G Unlocked

Hi guys, I've done some searching online and found out that a group of brazilians (in brazil of course) have managed to unlock the latest Apple iPhone 3G. This is great news for people like us in Malaysia that do not have this phone legally yet.

Apparently this guys uses a thin film of semiconductors (or some kind of electronic gadgetry) that is placed just over your sim card and inserted into the iPhone 3G together. The amazing thing is that the phone will think its a test sim card and allows itself to be unlocked and hook onto the service provider of your sim card.

This it seems will retain your phone's warranty as there is no changes done to the firmware and hardware. Thats definately good news, as the 1st gen iPhone needed a change of firmware to unlock it thus voiding the warranty by apple. Bad news is that the brazilian guys have no plans of selling this yet. Back to square one?? Not quite.

After searching around the internet more, I found a website selling that very same thin film of semiconductor that claims it can unlock the iPhone 3G. That website is alibaba.com, a site that provides a place for companies to sell their products online. Most of this companies that claim it can unlock the iPhone are mainly from China. However, I'm not sure if I can trust them.

Now the problem is how do I get my hands on an apple iPhone 3G which doesn't come with a 2 year plan/contract. I also wandered why nobody ever asked about the actual price of the phone. The $199 USD price tag for the iphone 3G is only applicable if you choose a 2 year plan on AT&T. But what is the price of the phone without any plan/contract attached to it??
